Head Quack Matt DelVecchio
Named one of the top five craft brewery picks by the Star Tribune in March 2017, Duck Foot Brewing was the first craft brewery in San Diego to offer gluten-free beer. In fact, all of their beers are brewed with an enzyme that removes nearly all traces of gluten. With a beer lineup that features variety, there is something for every beer lover: Some light-bodied, some big and strong. Some hoppy and bitter, some with a touch of biscuity, bready malt sweetness. And perhaps even some a bit on the sour side. Join us to hear how the invention was mothered by necessity! There will be plenty of brew to taste PLUS specially selected raffle prizes for you to win just in time for the Holidays!
Why would a successful financial advisor quit his job to open a craft brewery in the saturated San Diego market? In 2012, Head Quack Matt DelVecchio was living it up in cozy New York City. He was brewing away in his casa with the ultimate dream of owning his own craft brewery, funded by his day job as a financial planner. But it was his degree in sculpture that helped his artistic vision overcome the powerful din of the nearby Stock Exchange. Wrench in his plan: Celiac Disease. As his gluten-filled world came crashing down, his wife, Katie, gave him a swift kick in the pants. Make lemons into beer. He discovered a novel way to make beer with a natural enzyme that does nothing more than remove gluten from beer. Rejoice! Soon, the mild-mannered man with the malt mustache and his wife headed west to Encinitas. And they had a kid. And then a San Diego craft brewery and tasting room. And they loved both. To Duck Foot!
